ATTLEBORO - Arthur R. Janelle, 89, of Hope Garden Apartments, Park Street, Attleboro passed early Monday morning, Jan. 12, 2009 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Helen (McMaugh) Janelle.

Born in Attleboro on Jan. 6, 1920, Arthur was the son of the late Domino and Felecite (Brousseau) Janelle. He was raised and educated in the Hebronville section of Attleboro.

Arthur was employed as an automobile mechanic for over 20 years at Picard Motors Inc. of North Smithfield, R.I., retiring in 1982. Later, he was employed on a part-time basis at B & D Auto Parts in Attleboro for a number of years.

A communicant of St. Stephen's Church in Attleboro, Arthur was a member of the PEAL Club of South Attleboro and volunteered at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. Residing in Attleboro since December 1994, Arthur formerly resided 39 years in Norton.

Family and friends were the staples of Arthur's life. Known to many as a gentleman with a warm smile, Arthur dedicatedly visited his beloved wife Helen daily for the past 10 years at her residence at the Epoch of Norton, where she is lovingly cared for.

In addition to his beloved wife Helen, Arthur is survived by a son, Wayne A. Janelle and his wife Rhonda of Norton; a daughter, Mary Ellen Botting and her husband David of Greensboro, N.C.; a son-in-law, Stephen Giles of Collierville, Tenn.; three brothers: Armand Janelle of Pawtucket, Robert Janelle of Norton and Raymond Janelle of Attleboro; seven grandchildren: Craig Hansel, Adrienne Simas, Meredith Janelle, Evan Botting, Elizabeth Hansel, Jennifer Hough and Christopher Giles; two great-grandchildren, Abigail Giles and Samuel Giles; and many nieces and nephews.

Arthur was the beloved father of the late Carol Ann Giles, and the dear brother of the late: Dona Janelle, Edgar Janelle, Roland Janelle, Desneiges Janelle, Claire Rushlow, Delores Mingo and Theresa Boissie.

Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, Jan. 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro.

A funeral will be conducted on Friday, Jan. 16 at 9 a.m. from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church, 683 South Main St., Hebronville section of Attleboro, celebrated by the Rev. James Morse, pastor. Mr. Janelle will be laid to rest in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Hebronville.
