Raynaldo Janelle, 86, a resident of 220 Central Ave., Lewiston, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2008 at home, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Lewiston, Sept. 15, 1922, the son of Raynaldo and Ida (Perrier) Janelle. He attended Holy Cross School and then joined the Army Air Force in 1942 during World War II.

After the war, he worked 42 years as chef of Bates College. During the summer months, he worked in Boothbay Harbor, Auburn Colony and many years at Boys Camp. He also spent 25 years working at his son's restaurant in Gardiner.

He is best remembered for his boundless strength; strength of mind, strength of body and strength of spirit.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rita (Moreau) Janelle; one daughter, Joline Bilodeau and her husband, Roger, of Auburn; two sons, Raynaldo Janelle and his wife, Lynda, of Turner and Donald Janelle and his wife, Leslie, of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; two sisters, Carmen Russell and husband, John, of Auburn and Jacqueline Turmell and husband, Albert, of Baltimore, Md.; a sister-in-law, Pauline Janelle of Connecticut; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Warren, Kimberly Clapp, Michael Janelle, Robert Bilodeau, Rachel Phillips and Jason and Spencer Janelle; and six great-grandchildren, Meagan, Emily, Logan, Mitchell, Tyler and Riley.

He was predeceased by a son, Raynaldo Janelle (two years old); his parents; three brothers, Lionel, Maurice and Normand; and a sister, Pauline Saffelle.
