Sandra was born Oct. 26, 1953, in Portsmouth, the daughter of George and Rose (LaMarca) Pope, attended Portsmouth High School and received an Associate Degree in food service management from U.N.H. She died peacefully at home surrounded by family and loved ones after a short battle with cancer.

For most of her working career, she was involved in food service. She worked at the New England Center of Durham for 13 years and ended her career there as the manager of Acorns Restaurant and Lounge.

She was employed at Riverwoods of Exeter as the director of Dining Services. Her compassion and care for the elderly lead her to pursue employment at the Riverside Rest Home, where she was an activities coordinator. Her creativity and talents made her a valued employee and loved by the residents she encountered.

While at Riverside Rest Home she received her LNA certification and expanded her role in working with the elderly. She most recently was employed as a Licensed Nursing Assistant at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, where she has been for several years. Whether working in food services, activities or nursing, she had a special love for enriching the lives of the elderly and had passion for serving others and making people feel special and valued.

Sandra's love of beauty and aesthetics was evident in the way she lived her life. She spent her time nurturing her gardens, making elaborate gourmet meals for those she loved, especially her husband and family. She also enjoyed needle work and crafts of all kinds. She was a talented sketch artist in her earlier years and enjoyed drawing portraits and landscapes in her spare time while she was raising her daughters. Sandra loved to watch the birds and squirrels at the many feeders in her beautiful gardens, but most of all she enjoyed the company of her loving husband, family and friends.

Members of her family include her husband, Kevin Janelle of Somersworth; her daughters, Jennifer Coles Ashton and her husband, Ed, of Dover; JoAnne Coles of Portsmouth; a stepdaughter, Sarah Janelle of Somersworth; grandchildren, Ben Lewis, Katherine Lewis and Cole Vilders; a sister, Priscilla Flanagan and her husband, Ed, of Hampton; a sister-in-law, Carol Pope of Portsmouth; her mother-in-law, Marilyn Janelle of Somersworth; her sisterhood, Debbie Howard, Sue Houde and Denise Froton; several nieces, nephews, many cousins and a large extended family.

She was predeceased by her parents and brother, George F. Pope, Jr.

She would want to thank all the staff and her co-workers on 3 West at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital for their friendships and the care she received during her illness. The family would like to thank Wentworth Home Care and Hospice, who made it possible for her to be at home during her illness.

She will be deeply missed by all those whose hearts she has touched.
