She was employed at Riverwoods of Exeter as the director of Dining Services. Her compassion and care for the elderly lead her to pursue employment at the Riverside Rest Home, where she was an activities coordinator. Her creativity and talents made her a valued employee and loved by the residents she encountered.

While at Riverside Rest Home she received her LNA certification and expanded her role in working with the elderly. She most recently was employed as a Licensed Nursing Assistant at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, where she has been for several years. Whether working in food services, activities or nursing, she had a special love for enriching the lives of the elderly and had passion for serving others and making people feel special and valued.

Sandra's love of beauty and aesthetics was evident in the way she lived her life. She spent her time nurturing her gardens, making elaborate gourmet meals for those she loved, especially her husband and family. She also enjoyed needle work and crafts of all kinds. She was a talented sketch artist in her earlier years and enjoyed drawing portraits and landscapes in her spare time while she was raising her daughters. Sandra loved to watch the birds and squirrels at the many feeders in her beautiful gardens, but most of all she enjoyed the company of her loving husband, family and friends.

Members of her family include her husband, Kevin Janelle of Somersworth; her daughters, Jennifer Coles Ashton and her husband, Ed, of Dover; JoAnne Coles of Portsmouth; a stepdaughter, Sarah Janelle of Somersworth; grandchildren, Ben Lewis, Katherine Lewis and Cole Vilders; a sister, Priscilla Flanagan and her husband, Ed, of Hampton; a sister-in-law, Carol Pope of Portsmouth; her mother-in-law, Marilyn Janelle of Somersworth; her sisterhood, Debbie Howard, Sue Houde and Denise Froton; several nieces, nephews, many cousins and a large extended family.
